Side Quests
From March – August 2023, there will be monthly Side Quests released every 5th day of the month (except June).
Teams can participate in Side Quests that are strategically designed to help participants develop soft (e.g., goal setting) and hard (technical) skills relevant to the competition objectives.
Successful participation in each of these Side Quests will constitute 20% of the Championship Score (4% per challenge, with 80% going to the mission) and winners of each Side Quest will be awarded a Certificate during the Award Ceremony.
Information regarding the Side Quests will be sent out via email to the teams and updated on this page

Side Quest 1 – Hello World
Start Date: 5 March 2023
Submission Date: 4 July 2023
Instructions:
1. Set up a team Instagram account according to the guidelines in the Side Quest Brief/Submission Criteria tab
2. Put up an Instagram Post in the Carousel format with the following images* and information in the caption:
a. Team photo
b. Individual photos
c. Any other photos unique to your team and team members
3. Submit the Instagram post via the submission link we have sent you in the Side Quest email before the Submission deadline (4 July 2023)

Side Quest 2 – Brickdance
Start Date: 5 April 2023
Submission Date: 4 July 2023
Instructions:
1. Put up a Reel (15 – 60s) on your Team’s Instagram account showcasing the following:
- A robot complying with WRO 2023 RoboMission General Rules Section 5 (Material & Regulations)
- Your robot performing a dance (drive, wave arms around, blink lights, etc.) for entertainment and displaying your team’s ability to use the platform of their choice to some extent
- There is nothing stopping your team from getting in on the dancing action with your robots!
2. Include the following in your Caption:
- The Hardware and Software platform (e.g. Robot Inventor with Pybricks) your team has chosen to use
- Reason for choosing your Platform
- 1 feature of your Platform that you feel may give you an edge in completing the Mission
- How your dance demonstrates the feature
- The inspiration behind your robot’s dance
3. Accompany your post with the following hashtags and Tag us in the Caption:

Side Quest 3 – Brickneck
Start Date: 5 May 2023
Submission Date: 4 July 2023
Instructions:
1. Put up a Reel (15 – 60s) on your Team’s Instagram account showcasing the following:
- A robot that complies with WRO 2023 RoboMission General Rules Section 5 regarding Material & Regulations
- A clock (e.g. Current Local Time in Singapore, Singapore (timeanddate.com)) on a visible computer screen
- Your robot following the line to each checkpoint and completing as many laps as possible within 60s
2. Include the following in your Caption:
- Number of laps completed e.g. 1 lap + 2 checkpoints
- Setup (Drive base): Diameter of wheel used, Type of motor used, Distance between left and right wheels, Effects of your Drive base on the overall line following performance
- Setup (Sensors): Type of sensor used, Number of sensors used, Distance between sensors and wheels, Distance between sensors (if applicable), Effects of your Sensors on the overall line following performance
- What have you learnt and how could you have done better?

Side Quest 4 – Pick a Brick
Start Date: 5 July 2023
Submission Date: 4 Aug 2023
Instructions*:
- Put up a Reel (15 – 60s) on your Team’s Instagram account showcasing the following:
- A robot that complies with WRO 2023 RoboMission General Rules Section 5 regarding Material & Regulations
- A clock (e.g. Current Local Time in Singapore, Singapore (timeanddate.com)) on a visible computer screen
- Your robot following the line to each checkpoint and completing as many laps as possible within 60s
- Include the following in your Caption:
- Number of successful (game objects correctly placed) laps completed e.g. 1 lap + 2 checkpoints
- Manipulators: What type of Manipulators were tried? What type of motor was used? What effect does each of these have on the overall performance?
- Reflection: What have you learnt and how could you have done better?
- Accompany your post with the following hashtags and Tag us in the Caption:

Side Quest 5 – Bricking the Code

Instructions:
1. Put up a Reel (15 – 60s) on your Team’s Instagram account showcasing the following:
- A robot that complies with WRO 2023 RoboMission General Rules Section 5 regarding Material & Regulations
- A clock (e.g. Current Local Time in Singapore, Singapore (timeanddate.com)) on a visible computer screen
2. Complete the Checkpoints according to the Side Quest Brief
3. Accompany your post with the following hashtags and tag us in the caption

1. Each Team should create a public Instagram account*, stating your Team Name and Team Registration Number (when available) in your Bio:

*For reasons pertaining to the safety and privacy of Team Members, we will not be accepting submissions made from private or personal accounts.
2. Submissions for each Side Quest will be done as Posts of varying formats (e.g. Carousel, Reel, etc.) as detailed in their respective Quest Briefs.
3. To aid our collation and authentication of your submissions, please fill up the submission form in the Quest Brief. Instagram posts not submitted via the submission form will not be counted as a valid entry.

Successful participation in each Side Quest, as defined in each Quest Brief, will earn you 4% of the total Championship Score.
As Side Quests are built to nudge, the criteria for successful participation will be accessible to newcomers and veterans alike. Some Quests will also be competitive in nature.
For these Quests, the Quest Brief will include an Evaluation Criteria. The top teams for these quests will receive Awards for their efforts and may be involved in Demonstrations during the Closing Ceremony
