ISC 2024 Theme: Space Mining
One of the hottest discussions in the global space industry
Space mining is an upcoming area of interest within the space industry that poses a complex series of challenges and problems. These solutions can go on to not only support other burgeoning space industries such as in-space manufacturing and the development of space settlements, but also help improve our terrestrial capabilities in mining, potentially making it more efficient and sustainable.

Why International Space Challenge and STEM?
With the increasing demand for STEM 2.0 skills (that are industry-relevant and industry-ready), and the emergence of Space as a new economic pillar, the International Space Challenge brings:
- Learning
- Application and
- Industry engagement together
to help students hone the STEM knowledge from school into industry-relevant skills.

Dr. Maliki Osman, Second Minister for Education on ISC 2024 –
“This is an emerging area of interest within the space industry, and I hope it will interest our young scientists and engineers to apply themselves to this issue, and come up with creative ways to make space and terrestrial mining more efficient and sustainable. I am also glad to know there is another initiative to help students connect their classroom learning to professional pathways in the space industry.”
